My 'roll call' information is the same as before. My link to the list is
through the marriage of my 5 x great grand father to Avice Bonefice [sic].
Only known facts at present are:
(1) she married John Woodland, Blacksmith at Colyton, Devon on 27 July 1789,
both parties being described as sojourners;
(2) John and Avice Woodland had a son, Uriah Woodland, baptised at
Awliscombe, Devon on 23 May 1790;
(3) John Woodland was left property in Newfoundland by his father, Uriah
Woodland in a will proved 1819;
(4) John Woodland died at Upton Hellions, Devon on 5 January 1839, this
village being the home of his son, Uriah until his death in 1873.
Neither the baptism of Avice Bonefice, nor her burial as Avice Woodland have
been found. There is no positive indication that they ever went out to
Newfoundland. So far, no other children of John and Avice Woodland have been
discovered - there is no trace of the couple between 1790 and 1839!

As previously this is my BONIFAS line:
Father - Leroy William Alfred Douglas BONIFAS (b. London 1923)
Grandfather - Leroy William Dutton BONIFAS (b. Wimbledon 1899-d. London
1974)
Ggrandfather - Alfred Leroy William Dutton BONIFAS (b. London 1878-d c1960)
GGgrandfather - William Dutton BONIFAS (b. Chard, Somerset 1839-d Putney
1896)
GGGgrandfather - Dutton BONIFAS (b. Dorchester Dorset 1782-d. Chard,
Somerset
1849)
GGGGgrandfather John (Jean) BONIFAS (mar. London1765 to Jane DUTTON, d.
Dorchester c. 1815)
GGGGgrandfather Francois BONIFAS (alive in London 1766, possibly born Haut
Languedoc, France)
Francois was a Huguenot, most likely a refugee from the Haut Languedoc
region of France where the BONIFAS clan was, and is, numerous. I'm still
looking for the actual link to 18th century France which is probably my
'most wanted'.
In the UK today the only BONIFAS's I know of are all descended from my
ggrandfather, Alfred.
My maternal line is NICE/GRAINGER/TREBILCOCK/MOORE/AUSTIN from Essex, Devon
and Huntingdon all converging on London around the 1860s.
Although some of my family are occasionally (mis?)spelt BONIFACE over the
years by various clerks etc, the spelling is generally pretty consistently
BONIFAS since 1765, thus backing up Hugh's theory that it is a Huguenot
name. No links to any BONIFACE family as yet, but you never know!

My Roll Call details are the same as earlier.
All the information prior to James BONIFACE born 1813, Nuthurst,
Sussex is the result of Beth's research which she very kindly shared with me.
My problem person is Catherine BONIFACE who
married Benjamin FRANKLIN in Auckland, New Zealand
on 28 Auckland 1861, both of 'full age'. One witness to this
wedding was George PARSONS, step father to James BONIFACE
born 1836, Nuthurst and George BONIFACE, born 1838, Nuthurst.
I have very recently been sent a photocopy of
the 'Nominal List of men embarked with the Fourth
Division of the New Zealand Force under Command of Major
Gray in the "SIR GEORGE SEYMOUR"', War Office File 43/89. It
shows that George PARSONS arrived in Auckland, NZ on 26
November 1847 with his wife (Catherine PARSONS, formerly BONIFACE,
nee GILLICE), 2 children over 10 years and 4 children under 10 years.
One of the children over 10 years was James BONIFACE born 1836,
the 4 under ten years are George BONIFACE born 1838 and three
PARSONS children, Henry, William & Ellen born in the 1840's.
The remaining child over 10 years must, I feel, be Catherine BONIFACE,
the one I am looking for. The mystery for me though is where and
when was she born/christened? Before James BONIFACE & Catherine
GILLICE were married on 27 June 1836 at Nuthurst?

Margo McMicking ( Boniface )
Hello everyone, I've been hiding in the shadows of BIG,
piecing together my family history. I am very "green" in
searching my roots...heres what I have to date.
My gg Frederick Boniface wed Mary ( Collins?).
They lived in Epsom, surrey where he was headcarpenter at
Epsom Downs racetrack. I know of eight children...there may be more.
All born in Epsom;
Frederick W b 1867
Alfred b 1873
Edith b 1876
Gertrude b 1878
g Edward b 1877 wed Elisabeth Elliot
Charley b?
Robert b ?
Edward and Charley came to Winnipeg in 1900.
They acquired a settlement parcel of land and
gg parents came from England bringing with them,
Robert and Gertrude. Family remaining in England
is still a mystery... the remaining memories are fading.
Edward and Elisabeth on the move again, left the homestead
and and settled in Victoria, b.c. where their children still reside.
Doris b 1913
Irene b 1916
Bert b 1921 my father
Douglas b 1923
Wilfred b 1925
I would appreciate any tips or advice anyone has to share....
and apologize for being so late with my roll call ,

Just a beginner here, but slowly trying to work out the missing
links whilst also working on the NZ side of things - ie when my
grandfather came over, on what ship etc.
I have made a small discovery, and I've linked it back to your
family tree, Steve. I was just wondering if you are able to
provide some more info, or at least point me in the right
direction as to where I might be able to confirm my findings.
As I'm in NZ, I am solely working off the BIG pages and have
found them most useful. Anyway, getting ahead of myself....
The basics are here...
Me Catherine Lisa b 1971, Auckland NZ
Father Douglas Albert b 1948, Auckland NZ
Gfather Albert Charles b 1910, Hambledon, England
G Gfather Andrew Charles b 1881, Bramley, England
GG Gfather Alfred b 1849, Henfield, England
GGG Gfather Thomas b 1818, Woodmancote, England
(and this is where I need your assistance, Steve!!! or anyone else!!!
This is just a hunch...)
GGGG Gfather Richard b 1760, Ashurst, Sussex
(older brother of your 5th generation GGGGGGG??!father,
William, b 1 Dec 1776)
That would make him 58 when he had my GGG Gfather!
How often do you come across such an old Dad that long ago!?
And can anyone suggest how to go about confirming that for myself?
Derrick Parsons
* Grandmother: May Ellen Boniface, born Landport (Portsmouth?) 1895.
* Great grandfather: Caleb Boniface, born ? 1860.
* Great great grandfather: Thomas Boniface, born Hailsham 1834
(married Harriet Saunders)
* Great great great grandfather: Francis Boniface, born Pevensey 1793.
I wish I could say that the above is supported by documentary
evidence but it's not! From Caleb backwards, the links are
absed on information provided to me by BIG members over the past few months.
I have also established that I have quite a few relatives in
Canada, via three different Boniface emigrants - all of this
came as a very pleasant surprise to me!
Top of my most wanted list is information on my
great grandfather, Caleb. For a number of reasons, he seems
quite a 'shady' character and I want to find out more!!
