Subject: [BONIFACE-L] Roll Call
Hi Everyone
I am part of the Eastbourne Boniface's and my cousin's who I know who are on
BIG are Michael & Bill Bignell in Canada, And Louise Genge in Australia with
me. I am sorry if I have missed anyone if you would like to remind us you
have connections with the Eastbourne Boniface that would be great?
The furthest back we have got is with the following family who are my direct
line back to me?
Thomas Boniface born abt 1755 Eastbourne, married 1779 Eastbourne, Elizabeth
Rich born abt 1759 Eastbourne, 11 known children, her parents Richard Rich &
Elizabeth Waymarke.
George Boniface born 1779 Eastbourne, married 1802 Eastbourne, Lucy Verrall
born 1778 Eastbourne, 11 known children although on her memorial card in
1869 it states 14 children, 89 grandchildren, 37 great grandchildren, (I did
here a story that she took in 3 children?) Lucy's parents were Thomas
Verrall and Sarah Collins.
Edward Boniface born 1813 Eastbourne, married 1833 Eastbourne, another Lucy
Verrall born 1818 Eastbourne, 11 known children, Lucy's parents were William
Verrall & Elizabeth Earle.
George Boniface born 1836 Eastbourne, married 1858 Folkington, Sx, Sarah
Jane Hilton born 1833 West Firle, Sx, 8 known children, Sarah's parents
Henry Hilton & Ann Stephens.
Harriet Lucy Boniface born 1864 Eastbourne, married 1833 Eastbourne, Jesse
Fry born abt 1861 London City? (This one has me going around in circles) 5
known children, Jesse's parents Jesse Fry & ?
If any has any information and I do think one day there must be a connection
with the Hailsham & Pevensey families? I'm sure we will find one day there
will be some distant cousin we are connected to in the other Boniface's?

I am searching for the birth of James BONIFACE - I believe he was born 1735
at Woodmancote - that's from the IGI. I would appreciate it if someone has
more details. James married Elizabeth FARRENDEN in 1751 and had 6 children,
Mary 1756, Sarah (my gg grandmother married Edward PENFOLD in 1783),
Margaret, 1759, Jenny 1760, John 1762 and Ann 1766 all at Woodmancote. I
would appreciate details of any of these people.

Subject: [BONIFACE-L] Roll Call
Hello everyone!
It's a snowy morning in Delton, Michigan, USA.
As a new member, I've been finding my way around the web site when I
have spare moments. Today I looked at the May roll call to see how it was
done. I was happy to see the connection with Hilary and Helen, and excited
when I read the entry by Derrick Parson.
Derrick, I think I've found a cousin! I believe that Derrick's
3Xgrandfather , Francis Boniface, born Pevensey1793 is none other than my 3X
grandfather, Francis Boniface, born 28 Sept 1793, christened 17 Dec 1793 in
Pevensey. He and his wife, Lucy, had 8 children that we know of, four of
them listed on the 1851 census. They are: Francis, born 16 Feb 1820, Chr.20
April 1829 in Hailsham, SX, (he came to the US, and is my 2Xgrandfather);
Ann ca 1827 Mary ca 1839; Charlotte ca 1832; Thomas ca 1834/5 (could this
be Derrick's Thomas?); George, christened 29 July 1838 in Hailsham;
Harriett, christened 29 July 1838 in Hailsham; and Caleb, christened 1 Mar
1841 in Hailsham.
The name Caleb follows into the next generation in my line in Michigan.
Francis and Sarah Ann (Dann) Boniface named their 7th child, the first one
born in America, Caleb. He was born 20 Apr 1860 in Orangeville Twp, Barry
Co., MI, and Died 10 May 1934, within hours of his youngest brother,
Traiten. They were both bachelors.
The family that we found in England had no information on the older
Francis other than his birthdate. We found only the census, and those four
christening dates on his children. We wondered where they all went until my
cousin Jo Anne in Utah found the ship's list, and discovered that the
Francis born in 1793 had come to the US with his son Francis's family!
Accompanying him were Lucy his wife, and Charlotte 25, George 21, Caleb 19,
and Moses, age 6. We don't know where they went, because we have no oral
history about them at all. We only know of Francis the younger, for he and
his family came to Barry CO. Michigan and settled. Whether the others
stayed or eventually returned to England, we don't know. Derrick, perhaps
you have the answers to some of our questions. You spoke of relatives in
Canada via 3 different emigrants, perhaps you could put me in touch with
them?
Ok, here is my line.

I'm especially looking for a record of Francis and Sarah Ann Dann's
marriage, which happened around Nov, 1893, supposedly in Hailsham, and for
any info about Francis (born 1793), Lucy, and their family and descendants.
Where did they all go?
Thank you all, for your help.

Hi Group,
Feel free to begin the Roll Call, I see some have already taken the plunge.
Copy of extraordinary message I received from another cousin at the bottom.
Mainline:
Mother-Doris May....Uncle-Albert William George
GF: Albert Edward 1902-1984 Brighton
GGF: Albert 1872-1936 Brighton
2xGF:Henry 1841-1906 Brighton
3xGF:James 1811- 1887 Woodmancote
4xGF:William 1776
5xGF:Richard 1730
6xGF:Henry 1684
7xGF:Thomas 1634
8xGF:Richard 1607
9xGF:Thomas 1573?
Weak area in research is William birth and Richards connection.
Have now discovered that there are two Richard & Ann's and I have to
separate
the original one big family into two. Looking at records to pin down
and verify this area of my tree.
Connection to Antony Pay through common ancestor James.
Antony is descended from Henry's brother David.
Interests of late include the Boniface's who married each other.
I have a John Boniface who married an Emily Boniface.
Emily's father was a James Boniface.
Copy of e-mail I received:
Hello Steven Everitt
My name is Beryl Freemantle, nee Andrews. My maternal Grandparents were
John and Emily May Boniface.
I was browsing through pages, when to my surprise I came across a photo I
recognized and which I have in my possession, that of James Boniface.
The notebook to which you refer, we call it the 'Black book', we hold in the
family, I have a copy.
These were found within my Mother's possessions on her death, handed down
from Grandmother Emily May.
Your Great Uncle George visited me back in 1989, and I was able to give him
copies of old photos, and family details. It is only since I have been
retired that I have started to look into the family history.
May I raise a point from the 'Black Book'
John Boniface b. Dec. 15th 1873 (my G Father)
also the lines crossed out, hid details of his 1st marriage, and that was a
surprise, as nothing had ever been mentioned of it.
I followed it up and found the marriage details in the records held at Lewis
Record Office. I also have four letters written to my Mother, Gwenth May
Andrews, nee Boniface, from Albert and Daisy Boniface living in Mapleridge
Br. Columbia.
I should be interested hear from you, I live in Hampshire England

My name is Janet Rose ( Boniface ) Glass.
I am interested in becoming part of those searching their Boniface roots.
My father was James Frederick Henry Boniface, born November 22,

My first cousin, Jim Boniface is already a member, we share the same
grandfather, James Boniface, born March 2, 1883, 1 Victoria Rd.,
Portslade, England. Diana Boniface, a second cousin, and I share the same
great grandfather,

He died September 18, 1897. Both are buried in Aldrington Churchyard, Hove

Dolly Boniface.
All children are believed to have been born in Hove, England. All but Dolly
emigrated to Canada.
Buried with James and Louisa King is a boy, John Boniface, who died
November 9, 1903. I discovered this information while on a visit to Brighton
in June of 1999 and with the assistance of the Vicar of the Aldrington Church,
in what is now a part of Brighton, was able to locate the grave sites although
there is no headstone to mark the grave.
Grandfather:
James Boniface, born March 2, 1883, 1 Victoria Rd, Portslade, England.
Died 1933 at Galt, ( now Cambridge ) Ontario, Canada. He married Louisa Rose

Jeff & Marilyn Young
Hi
I have just sent an email with a date error in it.
I sent "Catherine Boniface would have had to have been born either between
James chr 30 Oct 1836 Nuthurst and George Henry chr 10 Jun 1838 or before
James 1813..."
I should have had "..or before James 1836..."
Sorry about that.
Marilyn.

Hi All,
My mainline is:
GGF: George Henry chr 10 Jun 1838 Nuthurst, died 29 may 1908 Makotuku, NZ
(from c1873 he used PARSONS as his surname)
2xGGF: James born 1813 Nuthurst
3xGGF: Thomas born 1782
I am connected to Beth Hughes and Mary Norman. All the early information
I have is the work of Beth who very kindly shared her research with me.
I would very much like to find the birth/christening for Catherine Boniface
who married in Auckland, NZ on 28 August 1861, full age. I am very certain
that she is the daughter of James Boniface born Nuthurst 1813 and Catherine
Gillice who married 27 June 1836, Nuthurst. To fit in with other information
I have on this family Catherine Boniface would have had to have been born either
between James chr 30 Oct 1836 Nuthurst and George Henry chr 10 Jun 1838 Nuthurst
or before James 1813 which would also mean that she was born before her
parents marriage. If this was the case could she have been given her
unmarried mother's surname of GILLICE when she was christened?
Regards,
Marilyn.

people are either not aware of the BONIFACE site or do not have the
connection to the internet. The query that Pauline has regarding the
marriage of George BONIFACE to Ales ALERIDGE, I also have the information
that the marriage was at Eastbourne. This came to me via Pearl Foster of
Bristol who did most of her own research several years ago. She did
correspond with Bert Parsons at one time but their results did not always
agree. I have also had information from Rita Robichaud of Hailsham (now
deceased) and Barbara Osborne of Lewes. Their research is always acknowleged
within my sources.

GGGGgrandfather John (Jean) BONIFAS (mar. London1765 to Jane DUTTON, d.

GGGGgrandfather Francois BONIFAS (alive in London 1766, possibly born Haut
Languedoc, France)
Francois was a Huguenot, most likely a refugee from the Haut Languedoc
region of France where the BONIFAS clan was, and is, numerous. I'm still
looking for the actual link to 18th century France which is probably my
'most wanted'.
In the UK today the only BONIFAS's I know of are all descended from my
ggrandfather, Alfred.
Other names in the tree are:
SMITH, COSTER, WEBB, GOUGH, DUTTON
Only recent development is contact with a lady in Hawaii whose maiden name
is BONIFAS and whose father emigrated from London to the USA in 1921. We
are trying to find a common link.
Although some of my family are occasionally (mis?)spelt BONIFACE over the
years by various clerks etc, the spelling is generally pretty consistently
BONIFAS since 1765, thus backing up Hugh's theory that it is a Huguenot
name. No links to any BONIFACE family as yet, but you never know!
Best wishes

I wish to thank Barbara Osborne and Hilary Ferguson for information on
Thomas and Harriet's family. If anyone has any information on the families
of any of the children of this family, other than George and Alfred (as I
think I am up to date), I would be very grateful to receive it.
I am hoping to acquire photo(s) of Boniface's Green Grocer and Butcher
shops, located in Hove, Sussex during the early 1900s. Will pass on to BIG
when I receive them.
